On page 23 of al-Insaf (as attached), al-Baaqillaani affirms TWO eyes for Allah. Now all what the Jahmi editor al-Kawthari could do is sit there in his footnotes and basically claim that al-Baaqillaani is wrong. If the Ash`aris want to use Ibn 'l-Jawzi to refute the Hanaabilah in this issue of two eyes, we have someone closer to hearts of the Ash`aris to refute the Ash`aris in this same issue of two eyes.
In fact, in al-Ibaanah of his, he says something no Ash`ari would even dream uttering:
والباقلاني ذكر نص كلامه الإخوة ومنه قوله في كتاب (( الإبانة )) : (( فإن قيل : هل تقولون إنه في كل مكان؟ ؛قيل له : معاذ الله ، بل هو مستو على عرشه ، كما أخبر في كتابه وقال ( الرحمن على العرش استوى ) وقال ( إليه يصعد الكلم الطيب ) ، وقال ( أأمنتم من في السماء )، ولو كان في كل مكان ، لكان في بطن الإنسان ، وفمه ، والحشوش ، ولوجب أن يزيد بزيادات الأماكن ، إذا خلق منها ما لم يكن ، ولصح أن يرغب إليه إلى نحو الأرض ، وإلى خلفنا ، وإلى يميننا ، وشمالنا ، وهذا قد أجمع المسلمون على خلافه وتخطئة قائله)) وبنحوه في التمهيد (ص: 260) تحقيق مكارثي وينظر موقف ابن تيميه 2/538
If it is said: 'Do you say that Allah is everywhere?', he would be told, 'We seek Allah's refuge! He is rather risen on His Throne as He informed us in the Quran.... Had He been everywhere, He would have been in the humans' stomachs and mouths... and it would have been correct that one could make Dua [with the hands] facing the earth, or behind, or to the right, or to the left. Such a person is considered incorrect by the consensus of the Muslims...
